The NWSS Constitution

ARTICLE I

NAME

 The name of this organization shall be The Northwest Soaring Society (NWSS).


ARTICLE II

PURPOSE

The purpose of this Society shall be:

(1)           To facilitate consistent growth in the art of design, construction and flying of radio controlled soaring planes.

(2)           To serve fairly and in proper balance those people with interests in radio controlled soaring, whether their interests are thermal soaring, slope soaring, competition or sports flying for personal achievement.

(3)           To gather and disseminate information on glider design, construction and soaring techniques, kit evaluation and launching techniques.

(4)           To provide influence in AMA legislation as it affects soaring.

(5)           To develop rules for soaring meets in a manner which will consider the needs and desires of all members.

(6)           To provide assistance to clubs in preparations for soaring meets and notification of all members of soaring meet schedules.

(7)           To provide records of soaring meet results and a system designed to honor pilots who have consistently demonstrated their soaring ability.

(8)          To Provide Identification of soaring poiots as members ot the soaring fraternity. 


ARTICLE III

MEETINGS

SECTION 1            The Board of Directors of the Society shall meet at least each year as provided in the By-Laws.

SECTION 2            An annual election of members to the Board of Directors of the Society shall be held not later than the thirtieth day of October in each year as provided in the By-Laws of this Society.


 
 ARTICLE IV
MEMBERSHIP

 There will be four types of membership, namely:  Individual, Club, Family and Junior Membership.  All members must submit a completed membership application and thereby agree to support and adhere to the Constitution and By-Laws of the NWSS.


ARTICLE V
OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS

SECTION 1 -         The governing body of this Society shall be a Board of Directors constituted as the By-Laws may provide.  Directors shall be elected from among the members of the Society.

SECTION 2  -        The Officers of this Society shall be a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, elected by the Board of Directors.

SECTION 3  -        Each Director shall take office on January 1, following his election.  He shall hold office for a period of three years except as provided in the By-Laws.  Each Director shall accept responsibility for one or more specific Society activities, as may be agreed among the Directors.

SECTION 4 -         Vacancies on the Board of Directors occurring before the expiration of a normal term of office shall be filled with a Society member appointed by the Board of Directors for the remainder of the term.

SECTION 5 -         The Board of Directors shall conduct all business of the Society, control all offices and committees, and discharge all responsibilities of the Society.  Decisions of the Board shall be recorded in writing and, as provided in the By-Laws, reported to the Society membership.


ARTICLE VI

Every member of this Society shall pay annual dues in such sums as may be prescribed in the By-Laws of this Society. 


ARTICLE VII

DURATION OF MEMBERSHIP

SECTION 1 -         Period.  Membership shall continue during the existence of the Society unless terminated as provided herein.

SECTION 2  -        Termination.  Non-payment of dues.  Any member failing to pay his dues prior to the end of March shall become delinquent and his membership suspended.


ARTICLE VIII

ACCEPTANCE OF PURPOSE AND COMPLIANCE

WITH CONSTITUTION AND BY-LAWS

A member, by applying for membership, thereby accepts the principles of the NWSS as expressed in its Purpose and submits himself to and agrees to comply with and be bound by the Constitution and By-Laws of this Society, and on these conditions alone is entitled to the privileges of the Society.  No member shall be absolved from the observance of the Constitution and By-Laws.


ARTICLE IX

BY-LAWS

This Society shall adopt By-Laws not inconsistent with the Constitution embodying additional provisions for the government of this Society.  Such By-Laws may be amended as therein provided.


ARTICLE X

AMENDMENTS

SECTION 1  -        This Constitution, and any supplements or attachments, may be altered, amended, deleted or replaced by a two-thirds affirmative vote of the Board of Directors and subsequently by a simple majority of the members.

SECTION 2  -        Proposed amendments submitted to the members must allow a minimum of thirty (30) days from date of mailing for response and such deadline for legal consideration must be so stated on the ballot.

SECTION 3  -        Proposed amendments may be submitted to the members no more than one (1) time in a calendar quarter and no more than two (2) times in any calendar year.
